ESSENTIAL OF CAMBODIA

#Discovery #Sharing | 6 days 5 nights

Most people who visit Cambodia are drawn by the monumental scale, grandeur and beauty of Angkor. It graphically illustrates the greatness of a lost civilization. Yet there is more to Cambodia than temples alone. Her riverside capital, Phnom Penh, retains its French-colonial ambience and charm. In an era of change the wonderful rich Khmer culture roots still go deep within this ancient kingdom as it moves slowly towards modernity. Throughout this amazing six-day journey you will experience the highlights of this great country.

DAY 2 | ANGKOR COMPLEX EXPLORATION | BREAKFAST ; LUNCH

In the morning you will visit the magnificent Angkor Wat. Built between AD 1113 and 1150, this is a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. DAY 3 | BENG MEALEA WONDERS & KOMPONG PHLUK | BREAKFAST ; LUNCH

Today will take you far away from the normal tourist spots around Siem Reap. You will travel through small villages and stunning countryside to reach the hidden temple of Beng Mealea. This shady, moss covered temple is an oasis away from the many hundreds of people who visit the main Angkor temples. After exploring this huge temple complex, you will continue to Kompong Phluk where you’ll board a boat to see the Cambodian stilt houses and the flooded forest and then on to the Tonle Sap Lake. Following your return to Siem Reap the remainder of the day is your own.
Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 4 |       PHNOM PENH - HERITAGE & WITNESSES | BREAKFAST

After your breakfast, you will take a morning flight to Phnom Penh. Situated at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers, Cambodia's capital city was once considered as one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient, and despite its recent turbulent history, it still retains a certain colonial charm. In the afternoon, you will go on a guided tour to learn about Cambodia’s more recent, tragic past, at the Toul Sleng Museum of Genocide. Formerly the Tuol Svay Prey High School. In 1975, this became the interrogation and torture facility for the Khmer Rouge regime. Later on, you will enjoy a welcomed drink at the FCC Phnom Penh (Foreign Correspondent Club) where there is a great view of the Mekong River and the bustling riverfront.
Overnight in Phnom Penh.

DAY 5 | PHNOM PENH EXPLORATION | BREAKFAST ; LUNCH

In the morning you will visit the Royal Palace, still the official residence of King Norodom Sihamoni and the nearby Silver Pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha. Next, you will continue to the elegant National Museum, which contains a comprehensive collection of Khmer Art. After lunch you will visit the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, just outside Phnom Penh. The visit provides a stark reminder of the atrocities committed under the Pol Pot regime. Thousands of people were killed here between the years of 1975 and 1978 and are buried in mass graves. This excursion may prove distressing for some, however it offers valuable insight in to Cambodia’s past.
Overnight in Phnom Penh.
